What is Thai Massage Therapy?

Thai Massage Therapy is a healing art that dates back 2500 years. The holistic principles of Thai Massage pull their origin from ancient India, before they made their way to what is now known as Thailand. The healing art of touch is a whole body approach to wellness. It has been an integral part of Traditional Thai Medicine for centuries and is still today prescribed as an integrated part of the health care system in Thailand.

How is Thai Massage Therapy different?

Thai Massage Therapy is usually practiced on a cushioned mat on the floor. The receiver is comfortably dressed with flexible clothing. The setting provides a wide range of possibilities that are not available in a regular massage setting. (on a table and with a client undressed)

Acupressure on energy lines using hands, thumbs, forearms, feet and knees.

Powerful local and whole body stretches to free the hips, spine and shoulders.

A mix of dynamic and static approaches to change the rhythm and accomodate the needs of the body and the mind.

What is Osteothai Massage Therapy?

Osteothai Massage was created by two French Osteopaths who are also experienced Thai Massage practitioners and teachers. They wanted to enhance the power of Thai Massage with the subtle and gentle healing power of Osteopathy.

Osteothai Massage in its essence is an enhanced Thai Massage. If you like Thai Massage, you will love Osteothai.

An Osteothai treatment may include:

Everything a Thai Massage treatment can include

Osteopathic joint manipulations including treatment on the spine to restore mobility

Abdomen and ribcage work to improve function of the organs

Craniosacral work to help regulate the central nervous system

FAQs on Thai Massage and Osteothai

Does Thai or Osteothai Massage qualify as Massage Therapy?

All of my massage services qualify as Massage Therapy for Health Insurance purposes. Only the Self-Care Coaching as a stand alone service is not considered Massage Therapy. However some home care recommendations will always be given to you after any of my massages.

Do I need to decide ahead of time if I want Western Massage Therapy, Thai Massage or Osteothai Massage?

If you would like to receive a massage on the floor (Traditional Thai Massage and/or Osteothai), yes, you will need to book your masssage as such as the room needs to be prepared accordingly. You will also need to make sure you bring appropriate clothing.

If you would like to try Thai or Osteothai Massage and did not schedule it ahead of time, you can still receive an adaptation of it on the table, as long as you have comfortable clothing for it.

What kind of clothing do I need to bring for Thai or Osteothai Masssage?

Any clothing that will be comfortable and flexible. A good choice is to bring sportswear, something you would wear for a workout or a yoga class.

If you tend to get cold, you may want to bring long pants and a sweater. If you tend to run hot, shorts and T-shirt/tank top is ideal.

Is Thai Massage painful? What about Osteothai?

Thai Massage SHOULD NOT be painful. Meaning it should not get you out of your comfort zone, like any other massage. At times, you and your therapist may decide to extend that comfort zone and play with stronger sensations to reach some therapeutic goals.

The same goes for Osteothai Massage, no pain is necessary to obtain results.
